Protecting wolves through science, law, Indigenous knowledge, and collective action.

This page guides our community through the most urgent wolf policies in California and across the U.S. — and shows you exactly how to take action.

California Wolves:

WOLVES ARE RETURNING HOME - BUT THEY REMAIN CRITICALLY VULNERABLE. CALIFORNIA HAS AN ESTIMATED 50–70 WOLVES. DECISIONS BEING MADE RIGHT NOW WILL SHAPE THE FUTURE OF THE SPECIES IN THE STATE.

THE ISSUE:

The CDFW Wolf Management Plan Revision (Dec 10–11 Commission Meeting)

  • Transparency around the Beyem Seyo Pack lethal removal

  • Pressure to weaken non-lethal requirements

  • Increasing livestock conflicts without adequate coexistence tools

  • Need for Tribal-led wolf governance and rights-based management

Take action:

  • Email the California Fish & Game Commission

    “Dear Commissioners,
I ask that the revised Wolf Management Plan prioritize non-lethal coexistence, transparency on lethal actions, Indigenous leadership, scientific data, and stronger protections for California’s endangered wolves. With fewer than 70 wolves, every life matters. Please ensure California leads the nation in ethical, science-driven wolf recovery.”

Our Letter to CDFW

Endangered species act:

THE ISSUE:

TWO ACTIVE BILLS WOULD FORCE GRAY WOLVES OFF THE ENDANGERED SPECIES LIST, IGNORING SCIENCE, THE PUBLIC, AND INDIGENOUS NATIONS.

Take action:

  • Email Your U.S. Senators & Representative

“Subject: Please oppose all wolf delisting bills and protect the ESA
    Dear Senator/Representative,
I urge you to oppose any bill that removes gray wolves from the Endangered Species Act. Political delisting overrides science, threatens wolf recovery across the West, destabilizes ecosystems, and endangers Tribal treaty rights. Please uphold the ESA and reject any legislation that weakens protections for wolves or other species.”

  • Call Your Lawmakers:
    Talking Points:

  • Wolves are essential to healthy ecosystems
    • States with predator-friendly laws protect tourism & biodiversity
    • States with eradication policies (ID, MT, WY) show wolves still need ESA protection
    • Political delisting undermines science and democracy.

WOLVES NEED FEDERAL PROTECTION — AND CONGRESS IS TRYING TO REMOVE IT.

Women for Wolves actively advocates for wolves through letters, petitions, testimony, coalition work, and public mobilization.

FEDERAL WOLF POLICY - WHATS HAPPENING IN CONGRESS

These bills determine whether wolves have national protection.

HOUSE WOLF DELISTING BILL (Passed House - 2024)

Would remove gray wolves from ESA protection nationwide.

Urge the Senate to reject it.

S.1306 WOLF DELISTING BILL (Senate, 2025–2026)

Forces wolf delisting regardless of science or public input.

Email your Senator to OPPOSE.

ESA REAUTHORIZATION / AMENDMENTS PACKAGE

Multiple bills could weaken habitat protections, speed up delisting, and restrict public oversight.
