Wolf Coexistence Program

To ensure California’s wild wolves can thrive alongside ranching, tribal, and local communities through education, coexistence tools, and cultural partnerships that build long-term tolerance and stewardship.

How it works.

  • Education & Youth

We believe coexistence begins with knowledge. Through school programs, college partnerships, and scholarships for young women, we’re bringing wolf science and conservation into classrooms across California. By engaging youth where wolves are returning, we’re cultivating the next generation of leaders who will carry coexistence forward.

  • On the Ground Tools

We provide ranchers and communities with practical, non-lethal tools to protect both livestock and wolves. From fladry and specialized fencing to guardian dogs and range riders, we will offer proven methods that reduce conflict. By combining modern science with traditional stewardship, we help ensure wolves can thrive alongside rural livelihoods.

  • Partnerships & Tribes

True coexistence is rooted in collaboration. We partner with tribes, conservationists, and global models like the anti-poaching units to honor traditional knowledge and develop inclusive solutions. By ensuring Indigenous voices are represented in decision-making, we uphold cultural wisdom and foster resilience across communities and ecosystems.

  • Community Integration

Coexistence happens at the local level. By showing up at county fairs and events we build trust and open dialogue. We provide resources, answer questions, and listen deeply — creating a culture of tolerance and understanding that strengthens communities while safeguarding California’s wild wolves.

  • Policy & Protection

Advocacy is central to our mission. We work alongside state agencies, scientists, and policymakers to ensure non-lethal strategies come before lethal options. From supporting wolf-language research to championing coexistence requirements in policy, we’re building a framework that protects wolves while supporting the people who share the land with them.
